4th NIZO Plant Protein Functionality Conference 2026

Place: Papendal, The Netherlands

The 4th NIZO Plant Protein Functionality Conference will be held on 13–16 October 2026 in Papendal, the Netherlands. The event brings together leading experts from academia, research institutes, and industry to advance scientific and technological innovation in plant‑based and fermentation‑derived proteins.

The conference addresses the urgent need for sustainable, nutritious, and appealing protein ingredients that meet consumer expectations for taste, texture, and health. Sessions will cover protein chemistry, processing, formulation, sensory science, nutrition, and sustainability, with a strong focus on next‑generation protein functionality.

Protein4Impact partners will contribute two scientific presentations:

Pedro Augusto (CS): Reactive extrusion‑extracted brewer’s spent grain proteins: Structural characterization and techno‑functional performance.

Yanyan Zhang & Zexin Lin (UOH): Engineering fungal biotransformation toolbox to optimize the purity, flavor and techno‑functional properties of alkaline‑extracted BSG fractions.

The programme includes scientific sessions, poster presentations, a Young Scientist Award, an Authors’ Workshop, and a fully plant‑based catering concept aligned with the conference’s sustainability mission.
